Integrating the ZXing library directly into my Android application

The

compile 'com.google.zxing:core:2.3.0'

unfortunately didn’t work for me.

This is what worked for me:

dependencies {
   compile 'com.journeyapps:zxing-android-embedded:3.0.1@aar'
   compile 'com.google.zxing:core:3.2.0'
}
